What LAF has done
As the LAF celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2007, I thought I might highlight some of the ways that we have contributed to the collective "progress". These are simply a few examples. We must do our part. And we are doing just that with the support of so many incredible volunteers, donors, advocates, and staff members.
I am proud to note that we have invested in young researchers, launched their careers and provided necessary support for their new ideas and visions. We must continue to develop a workforce that will be prepared to solve the challenges that this disease brings.
Similarly, I am humbled by the work of our public health team which developed, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control, A National Action Plan for Cancer Survivorship, and is now implementing programs that address the priorities in that document. Educational materials and programs are being implemented around the country and we need to ensure that the materials reach those individuals and communities that need the information the most. The LIVESTRONG educational resource and the LIVESTRONG Survivorship Notebook are examples of materials we are developing to serve the needs of those with cancer.
The development of the LIVESTRONG Survivorship Centers of Excellence Network is yet another example of how we are furthering progress. The fostered collaboration of these comprehensive cancer centers will produce both clinical and research results much faster than if each center worked on their own. Collaboration is key to breaking down many of the barriers which are delaying our progress. We are out to prove the value of such collaboration. I am certain this network will bear incredible results.
Thanks for all that you are doing to further our collective progress. Let's work together to ensure that our actions are not merely necessary but that they are sufficient to solve the problem. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and those disparate populations who need it the most.

On a personal note - my mom was featured in the Baltimore Sun today and I thought I would share the article with everyone - she is a special lady.
